The Story of SPARGO
The First Full Service Salon & Spa for Men Only in San Francisco
In 1996, I went to graduate school at San Francisco State University to learn how to manage several haircutting franchises that I owned. While researching the hair care industry for my thesis, I noticed that there were several emerging trends for men purchasing traditional spa services. With my past experience in the industry and with this added knowledge, I completed my thesis on a full service salon and spa for men only. However, it took almost ten years before I turned my concept into a reality.
In 2003, I was working as an executive assistant to the managing partner of an investment firm opening a new office in San Francisco. He asked me where he could get a decent haircut in the financial district of San Francisco. I could not think of a single place to recommend. Spargo moved from a graduate thesis to a reality, a business that fills a real need for the busy executive.
Today's competitive business environment insists that we all must look and feel our best. The mission of Spargo is to provide not only a friendly environment where a man can go to get well groomed, but also a sanctuary where he can slip away in the middle of the day to relax and recharge with a massage or pedicure.
In June 2004, I left my dream job to create my dream company - Spargo. I feel especially blessed to love the work I do everyday. I would like to dedicate Spargo to my late father, an athlete and adventurer. Without his inspiration, I would never have been able to make my dream come true.
It is now two years since Spargo opened and business is doing well. For me, one of the greatest "successes" is letting men know that being well groomed head to toe is important and not that scary. Another of the greatest "successes" is knowing that Spargo has attracted one of the best teams of professionals in the business. I want to publicly thank our clients…they are why we are here…and I want to publicly thank my team because they are the reason our clients return. I want to also thank my team for their commitment to excellence, to Spargo and to having fun at the same time!
